history

In the 1950's  the Grande Prairie Drag Racers held a race on what is now known as the "bypass".  Racing from the corner at Ernie's down past where Midwest sits now.  Fans lined both sides of the road to watch that action, drag racing fever had captivated Grande Prairie.  Little did they know that their dream of having a drag strip in Grande Prairie was not to be.  Fast forward to the 90's and the Peace River area became the official site of the new drag racers. The group eventually moved to Fairview Airport where they have been racing ever since.

After 50 years Drag Wars was created to bring the sport of Drag racing back to Grande Prairie.  2002 was the first event and over 15,000 fans, racers, and volunteers turned out the perfect weather to take part in something special.
